What is it?
Rivercote Rice Crackers from Lidl (€1.29/100g).
What’s good about them?
In my ongoing battle to overcome my addiction to crisps (King, of course), I recently turned to these instead for a quick snack and have been buying multiple packs on a regular basis. The small disc-shaped crackers are baked rather than fried and are good to eat on their own, or with a dip or topping.
Tell me more about them?
There are four flavours in the range: Lightly Salted, Sour Cream & Onion, Barbecue, and Sweet Chilli. Although there is not a huge calorific difference between the crisps (131 kcal/25g Cheese & Onion), and the rice crackers (106kcal/25g Sour Cream & Onion), there is a big difference in the fat content, which is 7g for the crisps and 1.8g for the crackers. The salt content of both is similar. However the Lightly Salted variety, which are seasoned with sugar and soy sauce and taste like rice snacks from an Asian supermarket, have less salt (0.26g as against 0.48g).
How do I use them?
Straight from the pack, which is divided into convenient four x 25g single serving rows. They stay amazingly fresh and crisp for days after opening the packet and are useful to have on hand when travelling as they’re robust and lightweight.
Where can I get them?
They are available in all branches of Lidl, countrywide.
Anything else?
The Sour Cream & Onion flavour is a recent addition and seems to be the most popular, so you may have to rummage through the mixed variety display carton to find them.
