Other Voices is a unique festival, where music-making takes over a small village, or pockets in a town or city, the lines between performers and audience are dissolved, and everyone becomes involved in some level in the performance. The festival began life in Dingle and in recent years it's reached out to farther parts of the compass and set out its particular stall in Derry, London and New York.
Dingle remains its spiritual home, though, and to be at Other Voices there is to see, hear and taste the elusive qualities that make it such a special festival. From December 6th to 8th, the Kerry town will again be opening its bars and pubs, nooks and crannies, kitchens and corners, and one very special church, to let the music and the conversations of Other Voices in. The line-up has been announced, and in addition to this expect a few surprise, last-minute guest appearances. You probably won’t hear about those in advance in Twitter, or read about them on Facebook. But if you happen to be in the right snug of a cosy Dingle corner, you’ll have a musical experience that gets better with every telling. The main day-by-day line-up is as follows, and here are just a few video highlights from the Other Voices church back catalogue, so those who haven’t been, and those who’ve never played, know just what’s in store for them on the Kerry peninsula. In the days leading up to the festival, we’ll be publishing more archive selections.
Friday 6th: Patty Griffin, David Gray, Lisa O'Neill, Hozier. Saturday 7th: Mogwai, Lulu James, Willis Earl Beal, Josef Salvat, Rosie Carney. Sunday 8th: John Grant, Agnes Obel, Asgeir, David Arnold
