The Cure will return to Dublin after 23 years to perform a headline concert at Dublin's Malahide Castle next summer. This will be the band's first Irish concert since their appearance at Electric Picnic in 2012.
Tickets for the Saturday, June 8th Malahide gig will go on sale on Wednesday, October 10th at 9am through Ticketmaster. The concert takes place on the same day of the recently announced Metallica Slane concert.
The band posted a 'save the date' teaser on Twitter last month that revealed they would be playing Dublin on June 8th next year.
Singer and main songwriter Robert Smith celebrated 40 years of The Cure in July with a sold out concert in London's Hyde Park – almost 40 years to the day since their first show. Performing to 65,000 fans, the set list was packed with 29-hit songs including Lovesong, Inbetween Days, Just Like Heaven, A Forest, Lullaby, Boys Don't Cry.
Smith recently spoke about recording a new Cure album, the first in 10 years. "I've committed myself to going into the studio and creating songs for the band, which I haven't done for 10 years. Meltdown [the London music and arts festival he curated this year] has inspired me to do something new because I'm listening to new bands. I'm enthused by their enthusiasm. So if it doesn't work, I'll be pretty upset, because it will mean that the songs aren't good enough."
He has revisited old unused lyrics to see if he can repurpose any, but “some of them don’t make any sense to me any more. It would be weird if I felt the same as I did when I was in my 20s. I’d be mental!”, he said
The Cure, who formed in Crawley, Sussex, England, have released 13 studio albums including Seventeen Seconds, Pornography, Wish – their 1992 UK No. 1 – . and 1989's morose Disintegration, which Smith considers his masterpiece.
