Artist: Stacy Barthe
Genre: R&B / Soul
Label: Motown

Stacy Barthe’s credentials have resided in the footnotes.

The songwriter’s work for Rihanna, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Brandy, Kelly Rowland and others have earned her some decent paydays and strong industry buzz, but there comes a time when such a talent seeks to be more than just a writer-for- hire.

Backed up by producers Malay (who starred on Frank Ocean's Channel Orange), John Legend and Eddie Blackmon, Barthe's debut benefits from strong vocals and equally robust emotional lyrics.

What makes Becoming such a rich, rewarding listen – and prevents most of the tracks from toppling over into melodrama – is the astute confident handle on lush melodies and arrangements.
