The first open-air concert of summer 2015 is earmarked for Slane Castle, Co Meath next May.

MCD and Lord Henry Mountcharles are understood to be looking at May 30th as a possible date - and sources say preliminary contact has been made with Meath County Council, the licensing authority.

The date is the last Saturday of May, and while Australian pop-punk band 5 Seconds of Summer are playing a series of indoor concerts that week, the Slane Castle concert will be the first open-air rock concert of the summer.

It has also emerged that there could be a second concert with a different headline act at Slane, with dates in August being considered.

Well-placed sources say U2 are unlikely to play either date.

AC/DC are being mentioned as a possibility.

No concert was held at Slane this year.  Bon Jovi and Eminem played there on two separate dates in 2013.

This has led to speculation there will be two concerts next year.

The front lawn of the castle rolls down towards the Boyne and is licensed to hold 80,000 fans.

The only comment Lord Henry would make was that he had "absolutely no comment on the fact that I have no comment".
