This is a special gig for Little Green Cars, explains Stevie Appleby to a jam-packed Electric Arena: the Dubliners’ first-ever gig was at Electric Picnic several years ago.

Since then, the quintet have been around the block with festival slots at Coachella and Lollapalooza under their belt in the past six months alone. Given such live experience, it’s strange why they choose to open their set with a brace of hymnal a capella tunes instead of bursting through the traps and electrifying the crowd. It puts them on the back foot immediately, but when they get going with tunes like Harper Lee and Please, they quickly fall into a groove.

Blessed with two excellent vocalists in Appleby and the amazing Faye O’Rourke, it’s a podium finish snatched from a potential flat-tyred finish.
