Much has changed in Ross Birchard's world since his 2009 debut album, Butter.

Winning ways with wonky sounds and scaleable beats brought Birchard to the attention of superstars such as Kanye West and Drake, while his TNGHT collaboration with Lunice produced a range of blue-chip moments.

Lantern sees Birchard showing that he's not lost sight of his roots in underground dance-floor bangers.

Lantern comes with a mighty wallop, every track buffed and flexed to gleam with great aplomb, though Birchard can also do quieter fare, such as the delicate Indian Steps (with Antony Hegarty on vocals) and the sparse, tender Deepspace (with Miguel adding the soul).
