Digitalism: Mirage album review - what it lacks in cohesion, it makes up in energy and spirit

Much has come and gone in the world of dance music since Digitalism first emerged a decade ago.

Back then, Ismail Tufekci and Jens Moelle made hay in sweaty dives with maximalist tracks like Zdarlight which partly set a template for much of the raving and EDM shenanigans that were coming down the tracks.

In many ways, Mirage comes across as the German duo reeling in the years, demonstrating the different sides to their sound which they've drawn on up to now.

There's exuberant, brash, riffy indietronica on Go Time, a rush of giddy electro colouring in the lines on Battlecry and some proggy, atmospheric grandstanding on the title track.

It makes for a strong statement about Digitalism’s smarts as producers and their agility when it comes to ducking and diving between boxes.
