Bill Fay’s 2012 emergence from the shadows was something to relish.

A songwriter of the classic stripe, his 1971 Time of the Last Persecution album of sweet, swirling English folk psychedelia was inspired the likes of Nick Cave and Jeff Tweedy.

His elegant Life Is People album, released in 2012 after 41 years away, was much admired.

There’s a similar gentle, graceful sweep to the songs here that makes for a quietly absorbing listen.

Fay’s measured rasp of a voice deals with the world around him in all its permutations.

From the sweet coaxing lean of The Geese Are Flying Westward and the innocent spin on the wonders of the natural world on Underneath the Sun to the more stridently energetic War Machine, Fay clearly relishes having an audience for his empathic and patient words to the wise.

Who Is the Sender reminds you that true music is really for all the ages.
