A spokesperson for An Post explained that following an investigation by the postal service in conjunction with An Garda Síochana, 'a number of undelivered letters and small packages for addresses on one postal route in Crumlin have been located.'

An Post is liaising with gardaí following the alleged theft of a significant volume of parcels and letters along the Dublin 12 area mailing route.

Gardaí have confirmed that they are investigating allegations that letters and parcels had possibly been taken primarily in Dublin 12 area with many being reported as missing for as long as eight weeks.

A person of interest has been identified.

In a statement, Garda headquarters said their officers are “investigating a report of alleged theft of a volume of material from a national service provider”.

The statement added: “An Garda Síochána is liaising with the affected service provider on the matter.”

A spokesperson for An Post explained that following an investigation by the postal service in conjunction with An Garda Síochana, “a number of undelivered letters and small packages for addresses on one postal route in Crumlin have been located.”

An Post said they “sincerely apologise” to the affected customers” for the “upset and inconvenience,” and are working to have this mail delivered as quickly as possible.

“While the investigation is continuing, we cannot provide any further information on this matter.”

A special phone line has also been provided for the impacted customers.
