A property in Co Monaghan has been sealed off following the discovery of a man’s body there late on Saturday night.
The discovery was made at about 10pm at a residence in The Diamond area of Clones.
The dead man, who was middle-aged and believed to be from Eastern Europe, appears to have sustained injuries consistent with an assault. The alarm was raised when paramedics were called to treat the injured man at the property on Saturday night.
However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, which was preserved overnight with the body left in situ, pending the arrival of a pathologist and Garda Technical Bureau on Sunday.

Gardaí strongly suspect the man’s injuries were consistent with violence around the time of his death, though whether these injuries, or a medical episode, caused his death was not immediately clear.
While an investigation has been launched, and all the resources of a homicide inquiry committed to the case, gardaí were awaiting the results of a postmortem examination before deciding on the direction of the investigation.
In reply to queries, Garda headquarters said gardaí were “investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body” in the Co Monaghan town on Saturday night.
“The body of a man was discovered at approximately 10pm at a residence at Clones, Monaghan,” it said. “The body remains at the scene which is preserved for a technical examination.
“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, the results of which will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”
