Gardaí have ruled out foul play in the death of a man in his 50s, whose body was found near the foot of a stairs in an apartment complex in Mallow in North Cork, on Thursday night.
Gardaí said that the post-mortem on the man’s body by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster, at Cork University Hospital, confirmed foul play was not a factor in his death.
The body of the man was found at the foot of a stairwell in the apartment complex on Thomas Davis Street in the centre of the town. The discovery was made shortly after 7pm on Thursday by other residents in the complex.
They raised the alarm and the emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí cordoned off the area as they began an investigation into his death.

An Garda requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office as a precautionary measure and the assistant state pathologist carried out a preliminary examination at the scene.
The man’s body was later removed to Cork University Hospital where Dr Bolster carried out a full post-mortem on Friday which established that there was nothing sinister about the man’s death.
Gardaí will now prepare a file on the man’s death, including speaking to witnesses to establish when he was last seen alive, for an inquest at the North Cork Coroner’s Court later in the year.
