Irish airline to lease 15 SSJ100 craft

Cityjet received the first of the SSJ100 Superjet aircraft that it is adding to its fleet at a cermony in Italy on Tuesday.

The Irish airline is leasing 15 of the craft, with an option for a further 16, in a deal worth more than $1 billion.

Chief executive Pat Byrne and commercial officer Cathal O'Connell took formal delivery of the first of the craft at a cermony in Superjet International's premises in Venice.

Superjet International is a joint venture between Russia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company and Italy's Finmeccanica Company.

The first Superjet will arrive in Dublin next month and Cityjet will receive three this year and the remainder in 2017.

Dublin-based Cityjet serves a number of European destinations and is one of London City Airport’s main customers.
