Shannon Group, the new State company that will merge the responsibilities of the airport authority and development agency, will be formally established today by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Paschal Donohoe.

The group will bring together Shannon Airport, the commercial enterprise company Free zone, and the International Aviation Services Centre, which will build on the activities of 40 companies already in the region.

Chairwoman Rose Hynes welcomed the establishment of the Shannon Group.

“The group has a wide footprint,” she said, “with Shannon Airport serving a region that stretches from Cork right up to the northwest and, in that regard, has both regional and national significance”.

Mr Donohoe said the merger and establishment of the new company were the final critical steps in a process that began in 2012.

“The aim of establishing the group is to build on the range of aviation-related activities already undertaken in Shannon, such as aircraft maintenance and leasing,” he added.

“The group can now focus on achieving these objectives for the benefit of Shannon and the wider region.”
