Air Canada Rouge, the leisure brand of Air Canada, is to begin operating direct flights between Dublin and Vancouver from next June.

The new route, which will operate three times per week, is Dublin Airport’s first direct service to the west coast of Canada. Air Canada rouge has been operating a Dublin-Toronto service since May 2004.

Dublin Airport managing director Vincent Harrison said more than 30,000 people currently travel between Dublin and Vancouver on indirect air services.

“We’re sure that number will increase significantly with the advent of this new direct route,” he added.

He said traffic numbers have been growing dramatically between Ireland and Canada in recent years, adding that strong demand is expected for this new route both from Canada and Ireland.

Air Canada rouge’s new Vancouver route will be one of the four new transatlantic services from Dublin Airport in 2016. New services to Los Angeles, Newark in New Jersey and Hartford in Connecticut will also begin operating.
