You may have missed it in all the excitement over Samsung's Note 7 last week, but Samsung is also launching a new version of its Gear VR to go with the new phone.
That was to be expected: the headsets require specific phone models to work, so any changes to design render the older ones useless. But Samsung has made a few changes to the Note 7 version.
First up is the colour. Previous Gear VRs were white, which can be an issue when you are attempting to immerse yourself in a digital world. That white interior can catch your attention or make things a bit reflective.
So Samsung has made it all a dark grey, both inside and out. That won’t make you invisible to the outside world, it will make it less glaring.
The other change is the padding, which has been bumped up a bit to make the headset more comfortable to wear. In addition, the controls have been refined to make it easier to work through menus.
The new Gear VR will be available later in August for the same price as the existing Gear VR: under €100.
