One of computer giant’s Dell’s main Irish subsidiaries, which employs more than 1,000 people in Dublin, saw turnover tumble last year as profits also declined.

Dell Direct, the computer giant’s Cherrywood-based sales and support operations unit, recorded pretax profits of €3.7 million as against €5.03 million a year earlier. Revenues fell 10.8 per cent year-on-year to €119 million compared with €133.5 million in 2014. Total comprehensive income after tax came in at €3.3 million, versus €4.48 million in the prior year.

The Cherrywood operation, which services the Irish market and the home and small/medium-sized business sector in the UK, provides data processing services, telemarketing sales and ancillary post-sales technical support. Turnover at the unit comprises primarily of commission income received from other group companies for the provision of sales and marketing services.

The net assets of Dell Direct at the end of last year were €155.6 million, versus €151.4 million a year earlier.
