Millions of fanboys and fangirls around the world swooned collectively when Nintendo announced the release of the NES Classic Edition gaming console. This compact version of an eighties classic goes on sale November 11th along with thirty pre-installed games including Super Mario Brothers, the Legend of Zelda, Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.
It might be smaller than the original but it has retained the classic boxy grey plastic body and the controller looks pretty much identical to its predecessor so that even before the load screen starts you’ll get a powerful hit of nostalgia as childhood memories come rushing back. Those completely in the grip of ‘retromania’ will appreciate the appropriately accurate eighties packaging. Now all you need is an old CRT television set and your time travel will be complete. And if you can’t be bothered there are plenty of 8-bit emulators out there that will allow you to play these games on your laptop.
