One More Thing:Just minutes before the end of Fyffes' annual general meeting at the Berkeley hotel on Tuesday a handful of shareholders of advancing years quietly made their entry.

No doubt thought they thought they'd time their arrival to perfection, just in time for the nosh.

The door had no sooner closed behind them than chairman David McCann told the gathering that the slimmed-down banana company had decided to dispense with the usual slap-up lunch for shareholders.

Instead, wilting investors were offered a free pineapple and a corer to help them eat it.

Having spun off Blackrock and Total Produce, Fyffes is only about one-third the size it was last year and McCann is obviously keen to keep the costs to a minimum.

It just goes to prove, there really is no such thing as a free lunch.
