Senator Windows has been purchased by the Gowan Group for an undisclosed sum.
Senator Windows, based in Wexford, was founded in 1985 by Noel McSweeney and Des Corrigan and has a network of more than 30 franchise dealers and branches on both sides of the Border.
The Gowan Group, one of the largest privately owned companies in the State, believes the Senator business can be married to the Gowan home appliance distribution network.
Gowan's activities include car distribution, the distribution and sale of kitchen appliances, including Aga cookers and the distribution of electrical appliances.
It is also involved in property and stock market investments.
Senator Windows will operate as a separate division under the Gowan umbrella.
Mr McSweeney and Mr Corrigan will remain in their respective positions of executive chairman and executive director of Senator Windows.
"We are confident many benefits will accrue from Senator being a part of the Gowan Group," said Michael Dwan, Gowan Group's managing director. He said the company holds a market leading position and is now a premium, well-known brand.
He said there are a number of interesting developments which would further enhance Senator's position in the marketplace, but he did not elaborate. "The acquisition of Senator is an exciting development for the Gowan Group."
"We in Senator are very proud to have built the most recognisable brand in the window industry in Ireland over the past 20 years," said Mr McSweeney, the largest shareholder in Senator.
The sale will "allow us to invest further in the marketing of the Senator brand and provide us with an excellent opportunity to build on what is already a very successful business".
He said sales in 2006 were expected to grow by more than 15 per cent.
The latest accounts for Senator, for the year to end December 2005, show the group made a pretax profit on ordinary activities of €328,262, on a turnover of €24.8 million. Directors' remuneration was €972,163 and dividends were €319,974.
Senator Windows employs approximately 220 staff who will now become employees of the Gowan Group, bringing total employment by the group to 700.
Gowan is owned by Gemma Maughan, and her family.
