The GAA is to team up with global confectionary giant Cadbury to launch a chocolate bar.

The Moro GAA bar will be distributed exclusively in shops operated by Cork wholesale group Musgrave from April.

The deal brings together two of the GAA’s key sponsors in a partnership that the association hopes will deepen its relationship with them.

“We’re going to launch a GAA chocolate bar next year [2014],” the association’s stadium and commercial director Peter McKenna said.

“It will be called Moro GAA. It’s not a new bar but it will be heavily branded with the GAA.”

Mr McKenna said the bars would offer prizes on the wrappers.

“Cadbury are conscious of not having consumptive prizes. So the prize would be, let’s say, Bernard Brogan to come and train your team.

“We are looking at combining a healthy endeavour with a treat,” he said.

The bars will be produced at Cadbury’s factory in Coolock, Dublin. Cadbury sponsors the GAA’s U-21 football championship while Musgrave is a sponsor of its All-Ireland football and hurling championships.

As well as its connection with Cadbury, the GAA is also working on ways of deepening its relationship with Eircom and Electric Ireland, two other key sponsors.
