“Big Four” accountant PricewaterhouseCoopers has announced plans to recruit more than 500 people in Ireland next year.

The company is expanding in response to an increase in client demand, boosted by what it says is Ireland’s robust economic performance.

The jobs will be in the areas of assurance, technology, digital, data analytics, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, risk management, international tax as well as financial services and fund administration.

PwC said the changing tax landscape is increasing demand for specialist services from both international and domestic companies.

The company said its deals practice is also seeing a significant increase in activity as the M&A market returns to normal.

Emigrants

PwC Ireland managing partner Feargal O’Rourke said the company was announcing the 2016 jobs now as many people were coming home for Christmas.

“We’re trying to capitalise on the significant number of Irish people looking to come home,” he said.

He said half the jobs would be aimed at recent graduates, with the remaining for qualified professionals.

PwC had a 6 per cent net increase in jobs this year, with 2,200 employees in the Republic, the highest since early 2009. The company employs more than 3,000 people in Ireland and had revenue of €329 million in 2014 on an all-Ireland basis.
