The Republic’s biggest pharmacy chain plans further expansion this year following strong Christmas sales.

Lloyds Pharmacy said that sales during the 2014 Christmas shopping season increased 18 per cent over the same period the previous year, while turnover was up 6.2 per cent during the promotional period from September to December.

The chain added 14 outlets during 2014, bringing the total number to 87. Lloyds said that 2014 was “very positive” for sales, adding that it will build on its progress by introducing new products.

The company also enjoyed a 37 per cent increase in online sales during the year. Its best-selling gifts during the Christmas period all sold for €15 or less.
