Communicorp's political editor and Newstalk journalist Chris Donoghue is to leave the radio group after 14 years, it was announced today.

The 33-year-old Dubliner is to take on the role of special adviser to Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney.

"After 14 very happy years at Communicorp an opportunity to take on a new challenge has come up and I have decided to go for it," Donoghue said in a statement. "I am looking forward to the next chapter and would like to thank all my colleagues in Newstalk and Communicorp for their support over the years."

He will present his last On the Record with Chris Donoghue show on Newstalk on Sunday.
