Taxi app Free Now has agreed a partnership with Zipp Mobility that will make Zipp’s eScooters and eBikes available to book through the Free Now app once Zipp rolls out its services in the Irish market.

The announcement follows the publication of the Road Traffic & Roads Bill 2021, which will legalise eScooter use.

Zipp, headquartered at NovaUCD, has already launched in the UK and mainland Europe and hopes to launch both eBikes and eScooters in cities across the Republic in 2022 and also start operating in Portugal and Spain.

Free Now has expanded beyond taxis by adding eScooter options to its app in other European markets last year, working with several other micro-mobility partners. The company now calls itself a “multi-mobility app”.

"It's a really exciting time for the industry now that legislation on e-scooters is in motion, and we look forward to having eScooters available on our app in 2022," said Free Now Ireland general manager Niall Carson.

"We are thrilled to join the group of operators that are able to offer their micro-mobility services on the Free Now platform," said Zipp Mobility founder and chief executive Charlie Gleeson.
