Professional services firm Deloitte Ireland has acquired Ennis-based Cahill Taxation Services for an undisclosed sum, creating the largest tax practice in the midwest.

The deal will strengthen Deloitte’s presence in the region and grow the local office to more than 150 people.

"This is a significant milestone in our business as we expand our tax practice in the midwest to create the largest tax practice in the region," said Harry Goddard, chief executive of Deloitte Ireland.

As part of the deal, Cahill's Fergal Cahill will join Deloitte as a tax partner within Deloitte Private.

“This is a landmark announcement for us today that reflects the current resurgence of business across the midwest,” Mr Cahill said, describing it as a “natural evolution” of the business he started 15 years ago. “Combining forces with Deloitte to become the biggest tax advisory team in the region enables us to deliver a wider range of services to our clients across various industries. We are excited to have the opportunity to join a global leader to help propel even more local businesses forward.”

The acquisition is expected to come into effect on June 1st.
