Barclays Bank Ireland has announced the appointment of Kevin Wall as its new chief executive.

Mr Wall, who most recently served as chairman of corporate banking and vice chairman investment banking, will be based in Dublin and will take up his position with immediate effect.

He joined Barclays in 1981 and has held a variety of roles across the business, including project finance and foreign exchange in the UK, US and Australia, and London-based management roles in strategic planning and human resources.

These were followed by investment banking roles in Hong Kong, Singapore and London. Mr Wall is a trustee director of the Barclays pension fund and a non-executive director of the business growth fund.

Mr Wall said: “Barclays has been operating in Ireland for almost 40 years, and has built a strong business in Dublin, attracting talent from around the world. I’m very proud to be leading Barclays Bank Ireland at a crucial time for the business.”

Barclays Bank Ireland chair Helen Keelan welcomed the appointment. "Kevin has a wealth of experience from his many and varied roles at Barclays which will be of great benefit to Barclays Bank Ireland," she said.

“He will lead a very strong and committed team that has successfully positioned Barclays as a key player in our core business areas in Ireland.”

Mr Wall succeeds Sasha Wiggins as chief executive of the bank, who will take up a new role within Barclays as head of east and southeast in UK corporate banking next month.

“I would like to thank Sasha for her excellent leadership of and immense commitment to Barclays Bank Ireland and wish her continued success in her new role,” added Ms Keelan.
