Phlok secures $600,000 in funding from investors

A social media company has announced plans to recruit some 100 staff in Ireland over the next 18 months.

Phlok, a social platform offering a rewards system to retailers, said it was planning to expand its operations having secured some $600,000 (€459,000) of backing from private and institutional investors.

It said it was seeking to recruit staff with experience in the areas of software development, sales, account management and training.

The company provides a points system to retail customers and offers similar to those available through daily deal websites. It also helps retailers to generate revenue from engagement with local consumers on social platforms, as customers receive points by shopping with participating retailers

Users can earn Phlok points by checking in at a business premises, following the business and buying its products.

The company says it is working with some 300 businesses across the State including chains such as McCabe's Pharmacy, The Wright Group and Carry-Out off licences.

"Gaining these investors allows us to execute on our vision to assist local businesses to attract consumers back to their main streets," Phlok chief executive Paul Graham said.
