The largest construction companies in Ireland shrugged off the impact of pandemic restrictions last year, with a rise in turnover for the top 50 members of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) of close to 14 per cent to €11.37 billion, according to figures supplied by the federation.

The CIF’s top 50 ranking, which details Irish and international revenue figures for 2020 (or the closest year end figure), also showed a spike in work by Irish contractors abroad.

Export sales by the top 50 rose by almost 29 per cent to €4.25 billion, according to the results of the CIF survey published in the federation’s Construction magazine. The top 50’s revenues in the State rose 6.3 per cent to €7.1 billion.

The John Sisk building group topped the ranking in the magazine, with revenues of more than €1.5 billion, with more than half of this derived from abroad. Mercury was second with revenues of just over €1 billion, while Jones Engineering came third, with €750 million.
