With running apparently the exercise du jour for the healthier types among us, Grant Thornton is right on trend with its Corporate 5k Team Challenge, a charity jaunt around Dublin's Docklands on September 10th.

The challenge, which sees the advisory firm join with charity Athletics Ireland, invites teams of at least four from businesses to take part in the flat race and will see 10 per cent of each €100 team entry fee being donated to Pieta House, the suicide and self harm crisis centre.

The remainder goes to Athletics Ireland, which invests its profits in grassroots athletics around the country.

Grant Thornton managing partner Paul McCann is realistic about his own prospects in the race.

“I didn’t exactly break the world land-speed record at last year’s event, so it’s going to be a programme of lentils and long training runs for me over the summer.

“We’re a competitive bunch and I can confirm that the days are long gone when people hold back and let the boss win. It’s like drowning in a sea of lycra as they surge past.”
