Restaurant owner John Farrell has doubled the size of his Dublin fish restaurant Super Miss Sue (SMS) taking his total investment there to €1.1 million.
Mr Farrell has increased capacity at the Drury Street venue from 40 seats to 90 by extending the venue with a new room under the adjoining car park.
The restaurateur said his new space was called Popdown and its menu featured dishes from his all of his restaurants, which also include 777, Dillinger’s and The Butcher Grill.
Mr Farrell said the decision to open up a pop-up style venue inside SMS, which also has a fish-and-chip shop and seafood restaurant, was taken after he was unable to secure enough electricity to launch it as a new restaurant to be called Luna. "We are working on getting that with the ESB. We have all the equipment but we need to build a new substation," Mr Farrell said.
Luna opening
He said he hoped to formally open Luna in March, but in the meantime was going to run Popdown on the corner of Drury Street and Lower Stephen Street.
"We don't have enough power so we are cooking killer quality food on charcoal fires instead," said head chef Karl Whelan.
Mr Farrell said: “This is a very good area. We think we can make it like Fade Street, a place where people want to go out, eat, and meet each other.”
