Pizza chain Domino’s saw Irish online sales grow 30.9 per cent in the third quarter, it said in a trading update.

Like-for-like sales in Ireland increased by 12.9 per cent, driven primarily by "very strong growth in digital participation". Online sales, the group says, now makes up 58 per cent of total sales.

Meanwhile, in the 13-week period to the end of September, Domino’s opened its first new Irish store for six years - upping its store count to 48.

While Ireland put in a healthy performance for the US-based company, the UK’s like-for-like wasn’t quite as stron, increasing by 8.1 per cent. However, this was an improvement that led to the pizza delivery company to say it expects full-year underlying profit before tax to meet market forecasts.

On July 25th Domino’s reported much lower like-for-like sales growth in the first half of the year, sending its shares tumbling.

The company said it would open 90 stores in UK this year, citing strong demand for delivered food in the UK despite the uncertain consumer environment.
