Cybersecurity group Keeper Security is creating 50 new jobs by establishing a base in Cork, its first European office.

Keeper Security is the world’s leading password manager and secure digital vault and helps thousands of businesses substantially mitigate the risk of a data breach.

Darren Guccione, chief executive and co-founder of Keeper Security says the European team in Cork will "provide support to the many businesses that need password and data protection".

“More than 80 per cent of data breaches are due to weak or poor password management and Keeper Security plans to be the first line of defence to protect thousands of businesses across EMEA over the next several years,” he said.

Conor Healy, Cork Chamber chief executive, has described the announcement as a very positive development.

He said Cork has a thriving cyber security sector arising out of an excellent tech and IT infrastructure and the availability of leading IT talent.

“I am sure Keeper Security will find these ingredients to be the right mix for the team to expand their European business from their new home and we wish them every success on the journey. With further investment under way in data centres in Cork, plans for a new Cork to France subsea fibre optic cable, and Cork’s existing connectivity between Europe and the US, we expect to see more information security companies choosing Cork as their home.”

Cluster

Martin Shanahan, chief executive of IDA Ireland, said that the new jobs further cement the reputation of Cork in the cyber security sector, pointing to a "cluster" of such firms in the city.

“The city’s tech infrastructure, talent pool and supportive academic network have created a compelling business environment which will continue to attract investment from companies operating in this space,” he said.

The new office will be located at 9 Parliament Street in Cork.

Keeper offers a password manager application and digital wallet that stores website passwords, financial information and other sensitive documents using 256-bit AES encryption, zero knowledge architecture and two-factor authentication.
