HOCKEY:JUST FOUR points separate the top five teams in the Leinster Senior League in what is shaping up to be a very interesting campaign.

Glenanne conceded ground this weekend as YMCA closed the gap on the leaders to just a point following their impressive win.

Glenanne dropped a point to lowly Corinthians, the third-from-bottom team carving out a 0-0 draw for just their second point of the season. YMCA bounded away from Three Rock Rovers in a four-goal spree at Grange Road.

When is the last time Rovers lost 4-0 at home? Philip Marshall knocked in two goals for YMCA with Johnny Bruton and Michael Fry adding one each.

YM continue to sit in second place and Monkstown occupy third after hitting five against Weston at Rathdown. Gareth Watkins added two more goals to his growing tally.

Fingal almost gave as good as they got against Pembroke but finally fell 5-3 to last year’s champions. New Pembroke recruit Brandon Panther claimed a hat-trick for the visitors, as did Peter English in Railway Union’s 4-3 win over UCD at Park Avenue.

All in all, it makes the league campaign more interesting than it has been for some time as the Pembroke and Glenanne dominance appears to be eroding.

Weston, UCD and Corinthians, however, are struggling a little.

LEINSTER SENIOR LEAGUE – Division One: Railway Union 4 (P English 3, R Abbott), UCD 3 (I Chadwick 2, S O’Donnell); Fingal 3 (A Sweeney 2, D Bane), Pembroke 5 (B Panther 3, M Elliott, R Flannery); Monkstown 5 (G Watkins 2, K Goode, A Ward, F Ryan), Weston 0; Three Rock Rovers 0, YMCA 4 (P Marshall 2, J Bruton, M Fry); Glenanne 0, Corinthians 0.
