Club career: A native of Inchicore, Foley started out with Home Farm before joining the ground-staff at Burnley in 1953 and, a year later, turning professional with Exeter City. In 1961 he moved to Northampton Town where he had the most successful spell of his playing career, winning two promotions as captain during a period when the club rose from the old fourth division to the first. Finished his league playing career at Charlton.
International career: Won nine caps at right back, making his debut in 1964 against Spain in Seville in a European Championship qualifier (lost 51). All his caps came when he was a Northampton player.
Coaching career: Has a lengthy coaching CV, which includes spells at Charlton (first as coach and then as manager), Millwall (assistant manager in 1974), Queens Park Rangers (reserve team coach), Millwall again and Arsenal, where he was George Graham's assistant for five years, winning the championship in 1989. Re-joined Northampton as manager in 1990, moved on to Fulham (as youth team manager) in the 1993-94 season and then spent two seasons as Ronnie Whelan's assistant at Southend.
Where is he now? After Whelan left Southend Foley spent some time scouting for Leeds United before being appointed reserve team manager at Spurs last July, where his former Arsenal partner George Graham joined him a few months later as manager.
