MEN'S HOCKEY:THREE ROCK Rovers were successful once again in the Tony Byrne Cup at the National Basketball Arena and yesterday won the National Indoor trophy for the fourth time in the past five years.

The Dublin side beat NICS 5-1 in the final with goals from Liam Canning, Phelie Maguire, Peter McConnell and Colin Huet.

Rovers took a 4-0 lead and went into half-time untroubled by the Ulster side. Another goal in the second half put them 5-0 ahead with NICS hitting just one back towards the end of the match. Canning grabbed two goals to continue the Rathfarnham side’s domination of the indoor game.

Outdoors a late foul on Gary Shaw, which earned Glenanne a late corner gave what looked like the winning opportunity to Paul Fitzpatrick in the Leinster Senior League over the weekend.

Fitzpatrick converted for 1-0 but opponents YMCA were not finished. The visitors to Glenanne Park earned two corners in the dying minutes with Jonny Bruton converting one of them, allowing YMCA to snatch the draw.
