Soccer:Giovanni Trapattoni has ruled out calling up replacements for Anthony Pilkington and Aiden McGeady, both of who are out of Wednesday's friendly against Poland because of injuries, insisting that he has more than enough players at his disposal to get through the game.
The Ireland manager had been hoping to hand Pilkington his international debut but the Norwich midfielder limped out of Saturday’s Premier League game against QPR with a hamstring problem that looks set to sideline him for several weeks.
Jeff Hendrick, Conor Sammon and Richard Keogh all trained for the first time with the senior squad this afternoon and all are in contention to feature at the Aviva stadium.
Three players – Wes Hoolahan, David Meyler and Alex Pearce – sat most of the session out but Trapattoni said that the decision to rest them was just a precaution as they had picked up minor “knocks” playing for their clubs.
They will, he said, be fine for Wednesday and, he added, “there is no need to call anyone else up, we had more than 23 in the original squad so we still have enough now.”
