Cork City 2-3 Longford Town

Cork City suffered a set-back in their bid to secure second place after they were defeated at home to Longford Town.

Karl Sheppard put the home side ahead on 35 minutes with a cool finish after latching on to a lofted Liam Miller pass, but the lead was short-lived, as David O’Sullivan swept home Dean Kelly’s low cross five minutes later. The hosts were left stunned before half-time when substitute Stephen Rice met O’Sullivan’s driven pass across goal.

Cork drew level shortly after the hour mark, Steven Beattie converting from close range after Paul Skinner failed to deal with a Danny Morrissey header. However, Kevin O’Connor popped up seven minutes from the end to divert O’Sullivan’s cross beyond Mark McNulty, clinching three points for Tony Cousins’ side.
