Republic of Ireland striker Andy Keogh has become the latest player to question Giovanni Trapattoni's selection procedures, claiming he found out that he was not in the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria through the media.

The Millwall player, who scored a penalty for his club in their 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, was not named in an extended 29-man provisional squad for the games despite receiving a late call-up for the recent friendly clash against Wales.

A tweet on his official Twitter account read: “Not even in the provisional squad, gutted, oh well might get called in last minute! #noloyalty”.

Amongst the replies he received was one from Everton midfielder Darron Gibson, who has not been involved with an Ireland squad since the European Championships last summer. The Derry-born player has also taken issue with Trapattoni’s selction policies in the past.

A further tweet from Keogh read: “Not moaning bout bein left out jus gutted, lot of quality in the squad, maybe after Oman and NY a txt or phone call wud of been courteous !!”

Keogh’s reaction is again likely to open up the debate on the lines of communication between Trapattoni and his players after a number of similar situations during his time as Ireland manager.
