Republic of Ireland defender Seán St Ledger is bidding to relaunch his career in Major League Soccer, going on trial at DC United after a lengthy spell trying to nail down a deal in England.
Injuries contributed to the 30-year-old’s problems at Leicester City, where he found himself surplus to requirements long before his contract was up.
He had a brief loan spell at Millwall before leaving and joined Ipswich on a short-term contract just before Christmas.
Mick McCarthy gave him a place on the bench for a few Championship matches but did not use him competitively.
Now, having previously said he would consider a move to the League of Ireland in order to get back playing again, St Ledger is hoping to impress in Washington with a United team looking to improve in last year’s first round play-off exit.
