Liverpool midfielder James Milner is expected to miss England's friendlies with Spain and France after sustaining a hamstring problem.

The 29-year-old was forced off after an hour of Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League win against Rubin Kazan in Russia after taking a knock to his leg.

As a result he was left out of Liverpool’s team to face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday — the first time he has missed a Premier League match for the club he joined in the summer.

It is now most unlikely he will join up with the national team later this week ahead of the trip to Spain for Friday’s match in Alicante.
