Wales captain Gethin Jenkins ‘disappointed’ despite win

‘I think a lot of ball turnover was by the backs out wide and we need to have a look at the video and see what went wrong’

Wales captain Gethin Jenkins was unimpressed as his side recorded a 17-13 victory over Fiji at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

While Wales claimed the victory that was expected with first-half tries from George North and Alex Cuthbert, plus a penalty try that Rhys Priestland converted, they laboured even after Fiji prop Campese Ma'afu was sent off early in the second period following two yellow cards.

“We’ll take the win but I’m disappointed in the performance,” Jenkins said on BBC1. “We lacked a lot of basic skills and lost the ball too often.

“Credit to Fiji, they came and gave us a hell of a game and we’re just glad to be out on the right end of the scoreboard.”

Asked what had gone wrong for Wales, Jenkins said there were a few hard days of video analysis to come.

“I think a lot of ball turnover was by the backs out wide and we need to have a look at the video and see what went wrong,” he said. “We just weren’t at the races today but we’ll take the result.”
