HOCKEY:THERE'S NO change at the top of the Leinster women's first division table with Loreto, UCD and Hermes maintaining perfect starts to the season, but it was defending champions Railway Union who were the weekend's top scorers, putting nine past bottom club Corinthian.

Trinity, meanwhile, have still to get off the points mark. They lost 4-0 to Loreto on Saturday – Cathy McKean and Niamh Small scoring two apiece – before putting up a fine show against Hermes yesterday, only to lose by a goal. Katie Grehan got Trinity’s score, but Gillian Pinder and Áine Connery clinched the points for the visitors.

UCD conceded their first goal of the league campaign, a short corner strike from Pembroke Wanderers’ Sarah Clarke, but by then they were 2-0 up through Chloe Watkins and Rachel Burke. They held on for their win, their fourth in as many games.

A double from Sarah Gleeson helped Old Alexandra to a 4-0 defeat of Bray, while six players shared Railway’s nine goals at Whitechurch. Emma Smyth, Alex Speers and Kate Lloyd scored two each.
