RACING:OWNER RITA Shah has lodged an appeal to the Turf Club against the decision not to promote her horse One Cool Shabra to first place in a hurdle race at Gowran last week.

The Oliver Brady-trained gelding was runner-up to Burrenbridge Lodge in the PJ Foley Memorial Hurdle but the winner had to survive a stewards inquiry after appearing to drift on to his rival in the closing stages.

Ruby Walsh has appealed against the three-day ban he incurred at Cheltenham on Saturday. Walsh was found guilty of causing interference when partnering Pearl Swan to be first past the post in the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial.

The suspension means Walsh would miss the ride aboard Zarkandar in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on February 11th.

“You’d never be optimistic [of getting it overturned], but I didn’t think it warranted a three-day ban. It was very minimal interference and a very minimal offence, if I’m guilty of an offence,” Walsh said.

The ground at Fairyhouse is currently unraceable ahead of this Saturday’s fixture after wet weather conditions that saw 30mms of rain fall on Sunday alone. The situation is being monitored ahead of the weekend.
