Event: 100m hurdles

Patience and persistence in the face of injury finally paying off, Lavin became only the second Irish woman after Derval O'Rourke to break the 13-second barrier in the 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Continental Tour silver meeting in Madrid in June, her 12.95 seconds leaving her second place. She has equalled or bettered 13.20 on all her last four starts which secured her place in Tokyo through her world ranking. The 2013 European U-20 silver medallist secured the national title in comfortable fashion in a time of 13.17.
