Ireland bowler Max Sorensen continued where he left off on Friday to secure an innings victory against Scotland in the Intercontinental Cup at Castle Avenue.

Sorensen claimed the wicket of Majid Haq to put Scotland out of their misery after 10 overs of play on the fourth and final day as leaders Ireland won by an innings and 44 runs.

Scotland had ended day three on 143 for eight and they managed 25 more runs before bowing to the inevitable at Clontarf.

Haq and Safyaan Sharif had brought a touch of respectability to Scotland's second innings before the latter fell for a final score of 60 to mark the end of Friday's play.

Iain Wardlaw came in to bat but only managed one run – his second of the match – before being caught out by Kevin O'Brien, his 100th for Ireland, off the bowling of debutant Craig Young.

Alasdair Evans managed 14 and Haq got to 37 before O'Brien got his second catch of the day in the slips off the bowling of Sorensen as Scotland were all out for 168.

Sorensen had destroyed the Scots’ top order on Friday, seeing off four of the opening five batsmen for a combined total of 10 runs. The Hills bowler ended with five for 37.

The victory against third-placed Scotland extends Ireland’s lead at the top of the table to 32 points over Afghanistan, who they will meet in December’s final.
