Marco Fu advanced to the quarter-finals of the Masters as he edged out Judd Trump 6-5 in an enthralling match at Alexandra Palace.

It was an arduous contest with neither man able to open more than a one-frame lead in the entire match, but 2011-finalist Fu claimed a decider which included nearly 40 minutes without a pot to progress.

Fu took the opener but Bristolian Trump levelled things up and then secured a break of 87 in the third frame to move ahead.

The man from Hong Kong then hit back to make it 2-2 and registered a high break of 138 to get his nose back in front.

The nip-tuck play continued with Trump once again evening things up.

A longer safety battle ensued with no scoring for nearly 40 minutes but when Fu eventually potted a red, he did not allow Trump back to the table and a break of 78 moved him into the quarter finals.
