The Irish team pursuit squad who broke the national record en route to a bronze medal at the recent European track championships has been confirmed as riding next week’s world track championships.

Mia Griffin, Emily Kay, Kelly Murphy and Alice Sharpe will contest the team pursuit at the championships in Roubaix, France.

The riders will each take part in another event. Murphy and Griffin will ride the individual pursuit, having finished sixth and eighth in the Europeans. The duo were also first and third in the round of the Track Nations Cup held in St. Petersburg in July.

Kay and Sharpe will contest the Madison and will hope to improve on their Euro placing of 13th.

No male riders will contest the world championships this year due to a lack of available qualified slots. JB Murphy took a Europeans bronze medal in the scratch race, was fifth in the points race and sixth in the elimination race.

The track world championships will take place between next Wednesday and Sunday. The women’s team pursuit qualifications will take place on the opening day, while the qualification rounds for both the individual pursuit and the Madison will be on Saturday October 23rd.
