Only two weeks into the season and the Statoil Leinster Senior A table already has a familiar look about it with Old Alexandra, Loreto and Hermes, who all won on Saturday, filling the top three places.
Four goals from Trish Conway helped Old Alexandra to their second successive win when they beat Glenanne 7-0 while Loreto and Hermes opened their campaigns with victories over Railway Union and UCD, respectively.
UCD, promoted from Senior B last season, put up an encouraging display against the defending champions at Belfield, restricting them to a single first half goal, scored by Shirine Young, before going down 4-1. At Park Avenue Cathy McKean got both Loreto's goals in a 2-1 win over her former club, Railway Union.
In Ulster Pegasus got off to a winning start when they beat Victorians 4-1 but Portadown produced the performance of the weekend, beating Coleraine 11-0, with Catherine O'Neill and Jill Orbinson sharing nine of the goals. The scoreline will make unpleasant reading for Galway who were yesterday drawn away to Portadown for the first round of the Irish Senior Cup.
