MEN'S HOCKEY:AFTER SATURDAY'S second round of Irish Hockey League matches Lisnagarvey are the only club out of the 12 contenders with two wins out of two, Greg Thompson giving them the points against Church of Ireland at Garryduff. The hosts led on half an hour through Gary Wilkinson, but let in an equaliser in the third quarter before Thompson snatched victory 30 seconds from time.

Pembroke Wanderers moved within a point of Lisnagarvey in Pool B by beating Three Rock Rovers 4-2 at Grange Road, although they rued conceding a second goal 90 seconds from time, one that cost them a bonus point. First-half scores from Alan Sothern, Michael O’Connor and Matt Brown put Pembroke in control, Tim Hill restoring their three-goal lead after Peter Blakeney had scored for the hosts. But it was Blakeney again who denied them the bonus point at the death.

After their defeat by Lisnagarvey, YMCA got back on track with a 4-1 win over Annadale.

In Pool A Glenanne ended up losing a game they had led 2-0, John Watson scoring twice to bring Instonians level before Wayne Robinson completed the turnaround with two minutes to go. Monkstown held on to top spot despite a 2-2 draw away to Cookstown. Banbridge defeated Cork Harlequins 4-0.
